Zhoghovurd newspaper of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes as follows, in particular: Will there be a referendum on the matter off EU membership in Armenia or not? The ball is already in the court of the RA National Assembly [(NA)].

Last week, the pro-European extra-parliamentary forces introduced the "civil initiative on the start off the accession process of the Republic of Armenia to the European Union" in the parliament. The draft is in the NA European Integration Committee; after 1 month of discussions, it will enter the NA agenda in 2025. (…).

Let's remind that the Platform of Democratic Forces had started the signature campaign on the matter of the EU referendum on September 16. The initiating group had to collect 50 thousand signatures in order for the matter of the EU membership referendum to enter the NA agenda. From September 16 to November 14, the initiative had collected 60 thousand signatures, but at the December 10 session, the Central Electoral Commission had ratified 52,351 signatures to join the EU. If the National Assembly rejects the draft, the members of the initiative must collect 300 thousand signatures, after which the matter will [automatically] be put to a referendum.
