Republic off Armenia National Assembly (RA NA) speaker Alen Simonyan on Thursday received the delegation led by the Presidents and Vice Presidents of the Parliaments of Nordic-Baltic Eight Regional Cooperation Format Countries in the NA, the latter informs.
The President of the Riigikogu of Estonia Lauri Hussar, the Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia Daiga Mieriņa, the Speaker of the Eduskunta of Finland Jussi Halla-Aho, the President of the Storting of Norway Masud Gharahkhani, the Deputy Speaker of the Folketing of Denmark Karsten Honge, the Deputy Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania. Juozas Olekas, and the Deputy Speaker of the Riksdag of Sweden Kenneth Forslund were in the hosted delegation.
In the discussion held in extended format, where the RA NA lawmakers also participated, Alen Simonyan thanked the officials who arrived in Armenia, noting that the visit of such a high-ranking delegation is very important for the Republic of Armenia: “On behalf of the National Assembly and personally me, I deeply appreciate the commitment of all delegations to visit Armenia for supporting our young democracy. Armenia attaches great importance to its relations with each country in the format, both as bilateral partners and as members of the European Union or associated countries. Armenia continues remaining faithful to its commitment of democratic reforms, which are essential for sustainable development, good governance, the rule of law and progress in the field of human rights. We are grateful for your continuous support for reforms,” the RA NA President noted.
The Presidents and Vice Presidents of the Parliaments of Nordic-Baltic Eight Regional Cooperation Format Countries, in their turn, thanked Alen Simonyan for warm reception and noted that they are impressed with Armenia. Also, they expressed their unconditional support for the territorial integrity of Armenia, and noted that they highly appreciate efforts of Armenia to establish lasting peace in the region. Furthermore, they stressed their readiness to support the European integration process of Armenia, emphasizing that they are ready to make their contribution in that regard.
The interlocutors touched also upon interparliamentary cooperation, Armenia-EU relations, the ongoing reforms in Armenia, and several other regional developments.
