The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has adopted a resolution calling on Georgia to hold new parliamentary elections in the coming months, Georgian media report.

Also, PACE has decided to ratify the Georgian delegation's mandates until April.

In addition, PACE calls on the Georgian authorities to take immediate and effective measures to resume Georgia's path to European integration, as well as to respect citizens' rights and freedoms and release all political prisoners by the beginning of the Assembly's session in April.

Commenting on the aforesaid PACE resolution, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that the document is absurd.

According to him, PACE recognizes the recent parliamentary elections held in Georgia, but wants new elections because the opposition political force it supported, the United National Movement party, lost the elections.

Kobakhidze added that Georgia remains a member of the Council of Europe and is ready for any cooperation with this organization.
