Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Giuseppe Cavo Dragone has not ruled out that the US will withdraw part of its troops from Europe, but will not completely withdraw from the alliance, he told Bloomberg.

In his opinion, Washington does not plan to leave NATO, but the pulling out of part of its contingent from Europe may be on the agenda due to the commitments that the US has far from here, in the Pacific region. However, he does not believe that a considerable part of American troops will leave Europe.

Dragone agreed with the views expressed by some European governments, according to which they should increase defense spending in light of the change in US priorities. There is a certain imbalance, and therefore they must correct it, the Italian military official said.

He said the view that Europe is incapable of defending itself was heretical. Giuseppe Cavo Dragone stressed that European military forces must fill the gaps in defense capabilities that will arise when some American forces are removed from Europe.
