The U.S. has proposed a draft United Nations resolution to mark the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, VOA reported. Ukraine and its European allies had earlier proposed their own text, which they planned to present Monday at the General Assembly.

The brief three-paragraph U.S. draft resolution expresses sorrow for the loss of life in the “Russia-Ukraine conflict” and reaffirms that “the primary purpose of the United Nations is the maintenance of international peace and security and the peaceful settlement of disputes.”

The resolution also “calls for an early end to the conflict and urges the establishment of a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia.”

Russia proposed an amendment, adding the phrase “including by eliminating its root causes” after the words “calls for an early end to the conflict.”

On Monday, the General Assembly is due to meet to vote on a text prepared by Ukraine and the European Union that calls for de-escalation, an early cessation of hostilities and a peaceful settlement in accordance with the fundamental UN Charter and international law.
