A powerful sandstorm is hitting northwestern Egypt, reports SHOT.

The coastal city of Es Sallum was the worst hit, where the sky darkened and the air turned bright orange due to heavy dust.

According to posts on social media by local residents, the city was plunged into darkness.

Also, visibility deteriorated, with sunlight barely visible under the dust.

Local authorities have advised residents not to go out unless absolutely necessary.
