American media company Paramount Skydance will lay off 1,000 employees Wednesday as part of the first phase of staff reductions, sources told Bloomberg.

A second phase of layoffs will take place later, though the timeline for its implementation has not been disclosed.

In total, around 2,000 people are expected to be laid off.

The layoffs are occurring against the backdrop of viewers gradually abandoning traditional television in favor of streaming services.
