Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez was sworn in on Monday as the acting successor to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro who was taken prisoner by the US. And US President Donald Trump said Rodriguez is cooperating with the United States, according to NBC News.
However, Trump noted that there was no contact with Maduro's inner circle before his overthrow.
He added that a decision on whether the sanctions against Rodriguez will remain in place or be lifted will be made soon.
Asked whether there had been any agreement with any Venezuelan official to remove Maduro, Trump responded in the affirmative, adding that many want to do so. Also, he claimed that this was done without the help of Maduro's inner circle.
The US president did not say whether he had already spoken to Rodriguez, but noted that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio speaks fluent Spanish with her and that their relations are very strong.
In addition, Trump hinted that the US could launch a second military intervention in Venezuela if Rodriguez stops cooperating with US officials, but added that he did not consider it necessary.
Also, the US president suggested that he had initially expected a second deployment of US troops in Venezuela.
