The government, at its Cabinet meeting Thursday, adopted a decision according to which 71 persons living in Armenia who have turned 100 or will turn 100 this year will receive a state-level material expression of respect and support in the amount of a lump sum of 1 million drams (approx. US$2,660) in 2026.

The decision states that the goal is to show a symbolic expression of gratitude and respect towards those individuals who have dedicated a century of their lives to their family, state, homeland, work, and society.

“This initiative, in addition to the financial component, is a moral appreciation of an entire generation that has lived through various stages of our people’s life, including periods full of difficult trials: the Great Patriotic War, the difficult post-war period, the [1988] earthquake, the difficult war period of the 1990s, socioeconomic and political transformations. These people are the living bearers of our national recollection, their life story—a part of our history,” the decision adds in its explanation.

But a 100-year-old in Armenia will not receive this lump sum if he or she has lost the right to receive a pension, and this amount will not be paid also in the event of his or her death. The lump sum will not be given also to those persons who have already received this monetary assistance by decision of the Council of Elders of the Armenian capital city Yerevan.
