Today, John Demjanjuk, 89, suspected of Nazi war crimes will face a Munich trial. Presently, the retired Ohio car worker is accused of serving as guard at the Sobibor death camp in occupied Poland.

Demjanjuk already stood trial in Israel, sentenced to death but was set free until court overturned the conviction, saying it was a case of mistaken identity. Israeli court decided that he was not the man known as “Ivan the Terrible” during the Nazi war.

The prosecutors say Demjanjuk can be convicted based on his SS identity card. 89-aged Demjanjuk was deemed fit for trial, however his family claims he suffers from a bone marrow disease.

The accused assures he was never at the camp, Irish breakingnews.ie website reports. “If convicted, Demjanjuk faces a possible 15-year sentence, although he could be given credit for some or all of the time he spent behind bars in Israel,” the e-source reads.
