YEREVAN. – The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) is working toward the adoption of the bill on the allocation of additional $40mn US assistance to Armenia. Nora Hovsepian, Chairperson of the ANCA Western Region, stated about this at a press conference on Wednesday.

In her words, the reports on the US allocating $100mn to Azerbaijan for the strengthening of its border with Iran are fake.

Hovsepian recalled that the well-known Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act of the US prohibits the latter from providing direct military assistance to Azerbaijan.

She added, however, that Baku will receive money from the US, but for other purposes—and first of all, for the resolution of its human rights issues.

The ANCA Western Region head noted that the US is currently pursuing a policy of reducing its foreign assistance.

Ever since its independence in 1991, Armenia has received $2bn in assistance from the US, while Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh)—about $45mn over the same period.
