Baku has started construction of an international airport in the Fizuli region of Nagorno-Karabakh [(Artsakh)] and expects to start operating it in the fall. The statement came from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in an interview with foreign media on Friday.
"As for the Fizuli Airport, work has already begun. We have operatively started [solving] the problems related to demining because, first of, there was a need to clear the area [from landmines]; the process is already nearing the end.
And the airport will be put into operation in a timely manner. Naturally, it will be delivered [for operation] this year. We want it to be in early fall. If everything goes according to plan, the airport will be put into operation early this fall already," Aliyev told TASS.
