The Cypriot government will lobby European Union countries to force them to cut arms sales to Turkey and has asked the parliament to assist in this effort. This issue was discussed in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, according to Cyprus Mail.

Following the meeting, Disi MP Harris Georgiadis, who brought the issue up for discussion, spoke about Ankara's aggressive and revisionist policy in the eastern Mediterranean, which poses a threat to both Cyprus and Greece.

Turkey has become a major exporter of weapons and also has the ability to manufacture weapons itself, he said.

Despite the successes achieved by Turkey's domestic defense industry, the country is still dependent on arms imports. Therefore, Georgiades believes, the Cypriot Parliament should take diplomatic initiatives aimed at preventing these sales to Turkey.
