Ara Shahverdian, an MP of Tehran and northern Iranian Armenians in the parliament of Iran, spoke to ICANA about the need to increase the trade between Iran and Armenia to up to $1 billion, reports ParsToday.

Shahverdian noted that trade between Iran and Armenia is now at $700 million, but it is necessary to take steps to bring it up to $1 billion.

The Iranian Armenian lawmaker noted that the outbreak of the coronavirus has not had a significant impact on bilateral Armenia-Iran economic relations in recent years, and the leaders of both countries have shown maximum determination toward developing relations.

Shahverdian also emphasized that Armenia is particularly important to Iran in terms of its geopolitical importance and being a road-bridge to the other EEU countries.
