The legal team of Levon Kocharyan, the son of Armenia’s former president Robert Kocharyan, who was arrested a few days ago during street protests has withdrew its complaint against his arrest, saying the judge is not impartial given his recent political statements.
"A little while ago, we submitted an application to judge Masis Melkonyan, by which we withdrew our complaint against Levon Kocharyan's arrest. Just three months ago, Masis Melkonyan was a board member of the Republic Party and repeatedly made political statements that were related to the second president of the Republic of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan.
Judge Masis Melkonyan is clearly politicized and his failure to recuse himself caused us reasonable doubts. It is more acceptable for us not to discuss the complaint than to have it discussed by a politicized judge,” the statement reads.
Levon Kocharyan was brutally beaten by the police even after he was put into the police car and did not resist to police actions. He sustained a concussion because of the beating.
