YEREVAN. - Prior to moving to the parallel regime of electric power system of Georgia, and via it to that of Russia, Armenia will have to save roughly 30 per cent of energy power capacity in its stock pile, Energy and Natural Resources Deputy Minister Areg Galstyan said in the Parliament Wednesday, when presenting the draft of the financial agreement with Russia on prolonging the Armenian NPP operation (USD $270 loan and grant of USD $30 million).

Currently, Armenia has power supplies which exceed the demand, but one part of it is for reserve, the other being nonconforming, the Deputy Minister said.

This partly includes the physically and morally outdated thermal plant unit of Yerevan TPP with the power of 550 MW, which the state doesn’t and is not planning to use. The power of Hrazdan TPP is 1100 MW, 300 of which have been practically demounted, not forming part of the thermal generating set. Only half out of 800 MW of the thermal generating set is used during winter intervals and accidents.

The highest demand in the Republic in winter amounts to 2400MW, the Deputy Minister added.
