YEREVAN. - Bangladesh citizen Arafad Kamrujaman Hossan, who is accused of illegally crossing the Armenian-Turkish border, has been sentenced to a year in prison.

According to the indictment, swimming across the river in Turkey’s territory and overcoming engineering and technical barriers on the state border of Armenia, Hossan  illegally crossed the state border  and headed for Yeraskh village of Armenia’s Artarat province.  

Here he was discovered by the officers of the National Security Service of Armenia. Arafat Kamrujaman Hossan was charged under Article 329 (1) of the Armenian Criminal Code. He was arrested.

Armenian News – NEWS.am has learnt about certain details on how the Bangladesh citizen appeared in Armenia. According to his attorney, Eduard Aghajanyan, in his preliminary testimony Hossan noted that he had left for Turkey to work as a migrant laborer. In his words, there he got lost and appeared in Armenia as a result. The Bangladesh citizen also stated that he didn’t intend to illegally cross the state border of Armenia.
