December 4, 2009 at 11:30 p.m. Moscow time the explosion in Khromaya Loshad nightclub in Perm, Russia killed 100 people and wounded 142 others.

According to Perm Region’s Health Minister Dmitry Trishkin, presently 140 people are in hospitals, including 85 who are in a very serious state.

Under preliminary data, the unsanctioned use of outdoor fireworks caused the accident, Interfax reports. No explosive devices were found in the accident site.

Russian Emergency Situations Minister Sergey Shoygu, Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev and Health and Social Development Minister Tatyana Golikova arrived at the emergency site, ITAR-TASS informs.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev assigned Premier Vladimir Putin to form a governmental commission on the clarification of the accident causes and aid the victims’ families, RF Presidents’ Press Secretary Natalia Timakova stated.
