Burning and tearing of Iran's revolutionary founder Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s portraits aroused indignation of Iranian leadership, foreign mass media reports.

According to the Voice of America, several protestors were arrested for destroying photos of the late Supreme Leader at the last week demonstrations in Tehran. Meanwhile, Iranian opposition claims that their supporters are falsely accused. The footage broadcasted by state TV that the demonstrators tore portraits is staged, oppositionists assert.

Last Monday annual state-organized demonstration held in commemoration of three students killed in anti-American protest turned into clashes between the protesters and security forces. Opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi supported the demonstrations. Earlier, Iranian government also blocked internet in the country and banned foreign media from participation in the rally.
