The situation with drug distribution in Armenia stands better than in Turkey and Pakistan, said the head of drug control and judicial cooperation department of the U.S. Embassy in Armenia John Maher.
According to him, this is why his department puts an emphasis on trafficking and corruption. In particular, under the recent police situation reports, the number of drug confiscation cases in Armenia increased. However, there are two reasons for that: increase in drug trafficking and intensification of law enforcers’ efforts in detecting import or export of the drugs.
Commenting on Azerbaijani side accusations of narcotic trafficking in NKR territory, Maher stated that according to information he holds, the drugs are imported to Armenia from Iran or by arrivals from various flights.
As for other fields, Armenia improved its trafficking indicators, as well as proved its commitment to the anti-corruption initiatives – 6 people were convicted within a year.
