YEREVAN.- Vice Speaker of the Armenian parliament Eduard Sharmazanov said the local elections were held in normal fashion.

Talking to Armenian News-NEWS.am, he said the fact that elections were competitive is very important. He labeled elections as “public and transparent” adding it was a real step forward.

“I was happy to see that the votes were given to the majority of candidates representing the Republican Party of Armenia. Prior to the presidential elections it is clear that the Republican Party is the most influential political force in the country,” he said.  

The local elections were held in Armenia on 9 and 23 September. The elections were held in Aragatsotn, Geghrakunik, Kotayk, Vayots Dzor and Tavush regions in 318 town and village communities.
