YEREVAN. – A terrorist group had entered the Armenian National Assembly (NA) sessions’ hall, on October 27, 1999 and killed several of the country’s Government and Parliament members.

Then-PM Vazgen Sargsyan, NA Speaker Karen Demirchyan, his two deputies—Yuri Bakhshyan and Ruben Miroyan—, Operational Issues Minister Leonard Petrosyan, and MPs Armenak Armenakyan, Henrik Abrahamyan, and Mikayel Kotanyan fell victims to this terrorist attack. 

The trial of these terrorists was held from 2001 to 2003. As a result, six were sentenced to life in prison, whereas one was sentenced to fourteen years.

The court case, however, was unable to expose the architects behind this tragedy, and therefore the Armenian body politic still has serious doubts with regard to its masterminds.
