YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) received a call, on Wednesday at 10:41pm, informing that a road accident had occurred nearby Shahumyan village of the Ararat Region, that there were injured, and rescuers were needed.  

A fire and rescue squad was dispatched to the scene, MES informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.   

It was found out that a VAZ 2109-model vehicle had gone off road and, crashing into a natural gas pipeline, rolled over resulting in a gas leakage from the pipeline.   

But prior to the fire and rescue squad’s arrival on the scene, driver Artur Zohrabyan, 21, and passenger Vahan Khachatryan, 20, were transferred to the Artashat city medical center where, however, Khachatryan died. 

The doctors say Zohrabyan is in average critical condition.
