YEREVAN. – Prior to the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) meeting held at the capital city Yerevan’s “Ararat” Brandy-Wine-Vodka Factory, which is owned by PAP Chairman Gagik Tsarukyan, the ruling Republican Party (RPA) members were claiming that a final agreement was reached between Tsarukyan and President Serzh Sargsyan, according to which PAP will support “the serving President” in next year’s presidential elections and the respective announcement will be made by the end of November, Hraparak daily reports.   

“[But] The PAP session did not contain any intrigue. In any case, there was no talk during the session as regards to running for the elections with its own candidate, or supporting Serzh Sargsyan. Gagik Tsarukyan just informed his ‘council of elders’ that there are political discussions, including with Serzh Sargsyan; nothing more.      

Yet according to those who were present [at the meeting], the impression was that the ratio between [PAP] supporting Serzh Sargsyan and having its own [presidential] nominee is 60 to 40 [percent] in favor of supporting [the President],” Hraparak writes.
