YEREVAN. – Armenia’s law enforcement agencies have launched 220 corruption-related criminal proceedings over the course of the first nine months of 2012, Deputy Prosecutor General Armen Danielyan stated.

In his words, the statistics show that under the conditions of activating the corruption detection mechanisms and prosecutorial supervision, when these indicators have grown dynamically—or maintained their rate of growth—, a substantial work has been done by the law enforcement, including the Prosecutor General’s Office.

“And we have accomplishments as well as shortcomings and omissions in these activities,” Danielyan noted, and added: “Since the effectiveness of the fight against such type of crimes is dependent on the quality of enforcing the criminal law, an operative consultation meeting was held with Armenia’s Deputy Prosecutor General, and it was demanded to secure a practice that stems solely from the letter of the law.”
