Today, a January session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe opens in Strasburg where the new president will be elected (January 25-29).

A representative of the political European Democrats group and head of the Turkish delegation Mevlut Cavusoglu is the only candidate for the post to replace Luis Maria de Puig (Spain).

As NEWS.am reported earlier, no issues concerning Armenia will be discussed at the session. The member of Armenian delegation to PACE Naira Zohrabyan informed that the report of March 1 events Ad-Hoc committee will be discussed by monitoring commission only.

Global crisis, the results of first round of the Ukrainian presidential elections, as well as healthcare issues will be in focus of the January session.
