YEREVAN. - Myopia, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, keratoconus are the most spread eye diseases in Armenia, said the ophthalmologist of “Optomed Canada” Ophthalmology Diagnostic Center Varsik Hakobyan on Thursday, during a press conference.

“Ophthalmology Diagnostic Center ‘Optomed Canada’ has been operating since 2005 and already has experience in this field. Different kinds of eye diseases are diagnosed in our center, which are then treated in the hospitals,” the ophthalmologist explained.

According to her, myopia gets exacerbated by the frequent use of mobile phones, computers and other equipment that emit artificial light.

Referring to statistics in Armenia, another ophthalmologist from the same center Lilith Kirakosyan noted that, in comparison with 2000, when the level of short-sighted children was 11%, in 2011 this rate has increased to 20%. She reported that in Yerevan average level of myopia is 23%, and the disease is most common, of course, for people over 15 years.
