YEREVAN. – Within the framework of the fish resource program, which is envisioned by Armenia’s 2012 State Budget, 366,000 small fish are released into Armenia’s Lake Sevan.

Before that, however, Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan held a consultation, on Thursday at the Gegharkunik Regional Hall, which was devoted to temporarily prohibiting fishing in the lake, the Nature Protection Ministry informs.

“We are artificially intervening in the breeding season, [but] with the objective of recording a natural reproduction. That is why it is necessary to stop all access to and outlet from the lake [at this time],” the minister noted.

Strict measures will be imposed in Gegharkunik Region to reduce illegal fishing during the breeding season because, once the small fish are released into the water, they remain in the same area until the end of their adaptation period.
