The GUAM (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Moldova) Foreign Ministers’ Council is to hold its regular meeting in Kiev, Ukraine, in February.

GUAM Secretary General Valery Chechelashvili reported that the date of the meeting will be fixed after the presidential election and formation of the Ukrainian Government.

He stated his intention to pay a visit to Azerbaijan and hold meetings at the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Chechelashvili said that topical issues of Azerbaijan’s cooperation with GUAM will be discussed in Baku.

The GUAM Secretary General is also scheduled to take part in a sitting of the task group for tourism. The meeting is scheduled for February 16 and will be chaired by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

GUAM was formed during the EU Summit in Strasbourg in 1997. Uzbekistan joined GUAM in 1999 and left it four years later. In 2006, at its first summit in Kiev, GUAM was declared an Oganization for Democracy and Economic Development GUAM.
