YEREVAN. – Armenia’s economic activity index grew by 7.1 percent in January-November 2012, as compared with the same time period last year, the National Statistical Service informs.

The past-three-month economic activity rate is stably higher than 7 percent, but it is below the record high of 8.3 percent that was registered from January to August.

A 6.7 percent economic activity drop was registered in November, as compared with October, but this was an increase of 5.5 percent from November 2011. The drop is due to the end of the agricultural season in the country, as agricultural activity has dropped by close to 50 percent.

But a 7.5-percent rise in the industry sector was recorded in November, as compared with October, but, still, the industry’s eleven-month growth rate fell all the way by 9.1 percent.  

The service sector—but without trade—still contributed the most to Armenia’s economic activity increase, as it was 11.1 percent since the beginning of the year, despite a 5.4-percent drop in November, as compared with October.

The agricultural growth was at 8.3 percent from January to November. 

The construction sector is gradually becoming more active. Its eleven-month activity rate of drop reduced all the way to 0.7 percent, which is the best indicator for the past three years. The activity index increased by 26 percent in November as compared with the previous month     

The average monthly salary in Armenia constituted AMD 118,400 (approx. $290) in November 2012 thereby surpassing the November 2011 indicator by 5.1 percent. But the average monthly wage has not changed much since the past month.
