In a conversation with Armenian News-NEWS.am the head of Armenian State Migration Service on issues of Asylum Petros Agababyan said that since January 2012 to December 2012, 434 citizens from 10 countries asked for asylum in Armenia.

According to him, among 434 foreigners, who had applied for asylum, 117 were accepted. 10 of 434 foreigners were from Iran, 28 from Iraq, 5 from Congo, 9 from Liberia, 366 from Syria and 16 from other countries. Asylum was granted to 15 Iraqi citizens and 102 citizens of Syria. Agababyan also noted that the decision to grant asylum is made within 3 months after the application to the State Migration Service.
