YEREVAN. – The reasons that compelled opposition bloc Armenian National Congress leader, and First President, Levon Ter-Petrosyan to decide not run for president in February’s elections are purely personal and they are not so much about his age, opposition Heritage Party Vice-Chairman Armen Martirosyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.   

In his words, there are political reasons behind Ter-Petrosyan’s aforesaid decision and these reasons have forced him to make such personal choice. 

“Levon Ter-Petrosyan was elected President in [19]91, [and] simply President in [19]96. And in 2008, [he was] a presidential candidate who had a triumphant race among the body politic, but, legally, [incumbent President] Serzh Sargsyan became President. After all this, I believe he would not like to be a [presidential] candidate, in the event of which he would receive low percentages [of the votes],” Armen Martirosyan maintained. 

To note, in an interview with a daily, Levon Ter-Petrosyan announced Tuesday that he will not run for the Office of the President of Armenia in the elections to be held on February 18, 2013.
