YEREVAN. – If Armenia’s opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party is not nominating its own candidate for the forthcoming presidential elections, this does not mean it will stand aside in these electoral processes, ARF Supreme Body (SB) member, MP Armen Rustamyan stated during a press conference on Wednesday.  

In his words, now, the ARF will put forth more fair and more impartial matters, and demand from those that will run in the elections to be answerable to the public demands that are presented in the seven-point proposals by the ARF.  

In his turn, ARF SB Vice-Representative, ARF National Assembly Faction Secretary Aghvan Vardanyan added that not everyone in the SB assembly had agreed with the decision of not nominating a presidential candidate, but the majority were in its favor.

Also, Vardanyan explained why they decided not to run in the elections. He stressed that elections in Armenia are shadowed, a united oppositional front could not be formed, and the outcome of the elections was predetermined. 

“And why did we not boycott the elections? That would have made sense if there had been a boycott by all opposition forces,” Aghvan Vardanyan stated.
