YEREVAN. – The precept, which the Democratic Party of Armenia (DPA) will adopt in the forthcoming presidential elections, is dependent on the drastic steps that serving President Serzh Sargsyan will take to change the situation in the country. DPA Chairman Aram Sargsyan stated this, during a press conference on Friday, and added that the body politic will be demanding. 

At the same time he noted that, in all probability, they will announce their clear position—with respect to February’s elections—after January 20.  

In Sargsyan’s words, Prosperous Armenia Party Chairman Gagik Tsarukyan, who decided not to run for president, could have been the incumbent president’s main challenger in the elections. 

“And what is called [opposition bloc Armenian National Congress] ANC had rather lost its standing,” he noted. 

Speaking about opposition Freedom Party leader, ANC MP, former Premier, and presidential hopeful Hrant Bagratyan, the DPA chairman said everyone still remembers what he had done in the 1990s, when he was PM.  

Aram Sargsyan noted that he very much respects presidential candidates, opposition Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovannisian and National Self-Determination Union Chairman Paruyr Hayrikyan, but stated that they cannot win the elections under this system.  

He did not reflect at all on epos specialist Vardan Sedrakyan and the other presidential contenders, and suggested to speak about serious things.

“Let this period end under Serzh Sargsyan’s rule,” the Democratic Party of Armenia leader added.
