In a conversation with Armenian News - NEWS.am the deputy director of the Caucasus Institute Sergey Minasyan said that the parliamentary elections were the most important positive development in 2012 in Armenia.

The expert noted that the significance of the recent parliamentary elections is that as a result for the first time in post-Soviet Armenia all significant opposition forces are represented in the National Assembly (parliament) of the country.

“This leads to the fact that political processes are currently developing inside of the parliament, and not in the street at elite level gutter politics. In this sense, the parliamentary elections were very important,” he noted.

Referring to the situation in the context of the presidential elections scheduled for February 18 in Armenia, the political analyst said with regret that there is not much struggle, which was at the parliamentary elections.

“There is no real competition, therefore, the result of the presidential elections is predictable,” Minasyan added.
