YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Gyumri city Police received information from the city’s fire and rescue squad, on January 2 at 10:30am, notifying that the shack belonging to Farida Sargsyan (born in 1935) was on fire. The latter was extinguished at 12pm.   

As a result of the fire, however, the shack was completely destroyed, and Sargsyan died from the burns she had sustained, Police Media Department informed.

But during the forensic medical examination of Sargsyan’s body on January 5, traces of violence were found around the neck of the elderly woman.   

Subsequently, it was found out that Aregnaz Baghdasaryan, 25, had strangled Sargsyan to death with a cable and set the shack on fire.   

Baghdasaryan is taken under custody, and a criminal case is opened on murder charges.  

The circumstances of this incident are being ascertained, and the investigation is in progress.
