YEREVAN. – A probation service is planned to be established in Armenia by the end of 2013, National Security Council Secretary Arthur Baghdasaryan stated during a press conference on Friday.   

In his words, the creation of such service is very important and, in this way, the policy of applying alternative sentencing will strengthen in the country.

“Such system will enable to set up corresponding penalties for those violations that do not pose a serious threat to society,” Baghdasaryan said, and added that the introduction of such system in Armenia will be yet another step toward reaching EU standards. 

To note, the introduction of a probation service is included in the EU program on assisting in Armenia’s judicial reforms.
