The Turkish press likewise is closely following the developments with respect to the presidential elections to be held in Armenia on February 18. The respective publications in the Turkish press stand out by their restrained commentaries.

Turkey’s Sabah daily, for example, ran an article entitled “[President] Serzh Sargsyan is considered favorite in presidential elections in Armenia.” In it, it is noted that, just like last year’s parliamentary elections, the ruling Republican Party will pass all other parties in the forthcoming presidential elections, too.

“It becomes clear from Serzh Sargsyan’s words that he trusts in Armenia’s electoral system. Armenia’s president had used the words ‘free’ and ‘transparent’ in connection with the parliamentary elections in May 2012,” Sabah wrote.
