YEREVAN.- President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan visited History Museum of Armenia (photo). He visited exhibitions of “Armenian Carpets” and “New Jugha: the Cradle of Armenian Printing” dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Armenian printing.

Ten new carpets were included in the exhibition of Armenian carpets of 17-19 centuries, museum director Anelka Grigoryan told reporters. There are over 2,500 carpets in the museum’s holdings.

Classical examples of the 17th-20th-century Armenian carpets from nearly all historical and ethnographical regions of Armenia are presented. Carpet-making in Armenia dates back to 14-13 centauries BC. The parts of carpet were discovered during excavations in Artik tomb.

“New Jugha: the Cradle of Armenian Printing” presents the manuscript made in the 17th century in New Jugha and the first Armenian books printed in 1638 – 1641 by a printing office of  New Jugha, examples of books printed in Madras and Calcutta.
