Mayor Ahmet Cakir of Malatya, Turkey, announced that numerous streets in the city are renamed, and also stressed that, in carrying this out, they have not forgotten Malatya native Hrant Dink—the founder and chief editor of Istanbul’s Agos Armenian bilingual weekly, who was gunned down in 2007 in front of his office building.    

Cakir noted that, when renaming the streets, they did not forget about the famous Malatya natives, Radikal daily of Turkey reports. He noted that Malatya Municipality decided to rename after Dink the city street where he was born. 

To note, Hrant Dink was born in Cavusoglu district of Malatya, and Surp Yerrortutyun (Holy Trinity) Armenian Church likewise is located there.
