YEREVAN. – Armenia’s number one problem is emigration; this is not a social emigration, but rather an emigration as a result of hopelessness and being in a defenseless condition.

Opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) bloc National Assembly Faction Secretary Aram Manukyan stated the aforesaid during a press conference on Wednesday.

Manukyan noted that emigration gained new momentum in Armenia after President Serzh Sargsyan’s recent inauguration.

“If this continues, the systems of army, taxpayer, [and] election will crumble in about five to seven years; there will not be taxpayers, youth, [and] working people, which are the hope of this country,” he said.

Aram Manukyan agreed that there was emigration in the 1990s, too, and this was the cruel situation of the Karabakh war. But, as per the ANC MP, Armenia achieved reforms and triumphs in those years, and the society possessed organizers and a will to be together. Now, however, according to Manukyan, the motivation is different, since those that are leaving the country now are the rich, the businessmen, and the defenseless.
