YEREVAN. – Armenian capital city Yerevan’s serving Mayor Taron Margaryan will not be able to hold office again because the country’s ruling party cannot receive the necessary number of votes in Sunday’s municipal council election.
Opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party Supreme Body representative Armen Rustamyan, who heads the ARF list for the Yerevan election, said the abovementioned during a press conference on Thursday. He added however, that the aforesaid will be the case solely if there is no multiple voting, election bribe, and use of administrative tools.
“This is why Armenia’s ruling party [i.e., the Republican Party] is doing everything possible to depoliticize the election and to convince the people that Taron Margaryan has done many good things for the city,” Rustamyan noted.
To the remark that people like Margaryan, Armen Rustamyan responded as follows:
“I like him, too. I like people, in general, especially Taron Margaryan; but the problem is not in liking. We must be aware of what we want to do in this country.”
