YEREVAN. – In line with fine-tuned data, a total of 46 communities, with 16,100 hectares of agricultural land, have suffered losses as a result of the hailstorm that hit Armenia’s Armavir Region on May 12.
Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan stated the aforesaid during Friday’s National Assembly hearings, and added that the total damage is estimated at about $50 million.
To help the farmers, however, the Government of Armenia will reimburse the land tax by 100 percent in 22 communities, and partially in 24 communities. The same approach will be used for the water usage fee, too.
Furthermore, fifty anti-hail stations will be set up, the loans given to the farmers will be frozen for 1-3 years, the farms’ foreign currency loans—which form the majority—will be converted into Armenian dram loans, and the farmers will be provided with seeds and diesel fuel.
