YEREVAN. – Numerous violations are discovered in Armenia’s social and economic rights, especially in relations with the tax authorities.
Armenia’s Human Rights Defender, Karen Andreasyan, stated the abovementioned during Thursday’s National Assembly session devoted to the initial discussion of the 2012 Budget performance.
Andreasyan announced this in response to an MP’s remark, according to which the institution of a business-ombudsman needs to be established in Armenia.
Andreasyan said they are engaged in the social and economic rights for the past two months, and they are surprised at the great number of violations in this domain.
He noted that military and economic ombudsmen are needed in Armenia, but the establishment of the institutions of separate human rights defenders is expensive. Hence, it is advisable that these activities be carried out at the level of deputies, who will be able to make use of the services of a common staff.
