March 3, United Nations General Assembly (UNGA/GA) adopted a resolution on the development of cooperation with Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

The new resolution will make it possible to strengthen CSTO-UN interaction, to expand mutual abilities to assist the efforts to ensure peace, security as well as regional and global cooperation, combating of terrorism, fight against illicit production and trafficking of drugs, sweeping away illegal arms trade, transnational organized crime and neutralizing the consequences of natural disasters.

The United Nations General Assembly calls UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to hold regular consultations with CSTO Secretary General.

CSTO holds an observer status in UNGA as a regional organization since 2004, that includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. All these countries are co-sponsors of the resolution, RIA Novosti reports.
