YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian on Wednesday met with Štefan Füle, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, who has arrived in capital city Yerevan.

Nalbandian noted that a progress is recorded in Armenia’s cooperation with the European Union (EU), the Armenian MFA press service informs. Also, he thanked for the EU assistance in Armenia’s reforms.  

The interlocutors discussed the ongoing negotiations within the framework of the EU Eastern Partnership. 

In his turn, Commissioner Füle highly appreciated the positive developments in EU-Armenia relations. He stressed that Armenia is a leading country in the Eastern Partnership Project, and reaffirmed EU’s commitment to continue assisting in Armenia’s ongoing reforms. In addition, Füle expressed a hope that the Armenia-EU Association Agreement and the Armenia-EU Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area agreement would be initialed during the EU Eastern Partnership summit to be held in Vilnius, Lithuania, in November.         

They also pointed to the need for a speedy ratification of the Armenia-EU agreements on visa relaxation and readmission.

In the context of Armenia’s current chairmanship at the Council of Europe (CoE) Ministers’ Committee, the Armenian FM and the European Commissioner reflected on cooperation between EU and CoE.

Edward Nalbandian and Štefan Füle will continue their talks during the working dinner to be held on Wednesday evening.
