YEREVAN. – Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan on Wednesday met with Ambassador Traian Hristea, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia.

Hakobyan briefed Hristea on the project of founding the New Aleppo district in Armenia’s City of Ashtarak, the Diaspora Ministry press service informs.  

To note, the district is being built for the Syrian Armenians that have permanently moved to Armenia. The project is implemented with the assistance by the state, the sponsors, and the benefactors.    

The minister petitioned to the EU Delegation chief, with a request for EU co-funding for the projects toward solving the main problems of the Syrian Armenians that have moved to Armenia.

Hranush Hakobyan also reflected on the present-day crisis in Syria and especially in Aleppo. As per the minister, the physical existence of the Syrian residents—including the Armenians still living in Syria—is in jeopardy.     

In his turn, the head of the EU Delegation to Armenia expressed willingness to raise these matters among the relevant European Union bodies.
