U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Philip H. Gordon’s statement that it is up to the U.S. Congress to decide on the Armenian Genocide resolution was intended for Turkey to show that Washington is not to be talked in terms of ultimatums, Galust Sahakyan, Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) faction, told a news briefing.

The Heritage Party member Zaruhi Bostanjyan stated that the consequences of the statement can hardly be forecasted. “I know for sure the statement has political implications. I can only say that each country recognizing the Armenian Genocide does it to its own benefit,” Bostanjyan said.
