Turkish authorities charged 33 suspects with the implication in planning discredit and destabilization of incumbent government.

The suspects intended to kill prominent members of Christian and Jewish communities, as well as attack other ethnic minorities, Turkish officials said.

The investigation found it was planned to shift the blame on to Islamic extremists to discredit the government.

Three admirals of the Turkish Navy, and several other retired officers were involved in the conspiracy, Voice of America reports.

As NEWS.am reported previously, according to the documents published by Turkish Taraf newspaper, Sledgehammer action plan comprised 4 clauses and after their implementation coup d’etat would be staged. The plan envisaged explosion of a mosque at the Friday prayer, landing of fighter aircrafts in Aegean Sea. The mentioned actions had to reveal weaknesses of ruling Justice and Development party. All together, Turkish authorities filed charge against 200 suspects, including military officers, policemen, journalists and scientists.
