YEREVAN. – The expected meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents will hardly become a breakthrough in settlement of Karabakh conflict, political analyst Alexander Markarov said.

The parties confirmed their intention to meet during the recent visit of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs’ visit to the region.

At the same time Markarov recalled that the experts do not have sufficient information to make forecasts. As an example he brought the meeting in Kazan when expert were skeptical but then it was stated the parties are close to signing of a document.

“However, Azerbaijani side’s non-constructive position did not enable to sign the document, although the preliminary agreement had been reached,” Markarov said during the Tuesday press conference.

During the previous meeting, the parties in fact presented their positions, the political analyst said, recalling co-chairs’ calls to create atmosphere of confidence.

“It is difficult to expect a breakthrough, but the fact that meetings are resumed proves that the parties realize the settlement of Karabakh conflict has no military solution and talks are the only logical path,” he resumed.
